In 1911 after a five year absence from the game of baseball, Nixey Callahan was back for the Chicago White Sox. So popular was the veteran that when the White Sox arrived in New York to play the Highlanders (Yankees) at Hilltop Park, the home crowd threw him a little party complete with a large floral wreath. Callahan is being talked up by Joe Humphries at home plate while members of both the White Sox and Yankees look on as part of the festivities. About 17 players from both teams are visible in the photograph and the man who took the image, Charles Conlon has adorned his handwritten notes describing the action on the back. It is highly likely that this is the only example of this photograph that exists making it a gem for White Sox, Yankees and fans of early baseball in general. Condition and quality are both quite nice.
