1942 Powerful photograph of Babe Ruth back in Yankee pinstripes after a period of turmoil after being overlooked for their coaching jobs and feeling slighted by the team. See holding three bats and harkening back to a decade earlier when he was striking terror into the hearts of pitchers around the world. Taken as part of a relief game for WWII, this was a famous appearance in which he faced off again with Walter Johnson. This is without a doubt the finest image of Ruth wearing a Yankees uniform from after 1934 that has ever been taken and this example is crystal clear and essentially perfect. Issued by the Associated Press and stamped on the back, the paper caption was removed and placed on a thicker board to be displayed when this photo was framed, but it is present and describes the action perfectly.
